2018 Fantasy Nascar RaceDay Thoughts (Dega)

Welcome to TimersSports

Race Day Thoughts -

Garry Briggs (@Garryy12):

- The Fords will be strong

- Wrecks will happen. Sorry there is no avoiding that

-Clint Bowyer is a solid dark horse pick

- Stenhouse Jr is solid as they come here on the plate tracks

Jeff Nathans (@JeffNathans18):

- Anyone who says they know what gonna happen today is lying. Go with your gut

- The Penske cars has won 5 of the last 7 races at Dega. Wanna bet against them? Go right ahead.

- Austin Dillon is someone to keep your eyes on. One of the best plate racers in the field. Doesn't dominate, but he has a knack of being up front at the end

- I really like Paul Menard and Ty Dillon today as solid sleepers picks. Both has had success on this type of track. Ty Dillon and 13 team has history of finishing well. And Menard always seems to be better at Dega than Daytona

Driver Group Game:

Garry's lineup: 11,14,17,34

Jeff's lineup: 11,3,17,34

Dark Horse:

Garry's pick: Clint Bowyer

Jeff's pick: Chase Elliott

2018 Fantasy Nascar Picks (Dega)

Welcome to Timerssports

Fantasy Nascar Picks -

Driver Group Game -

A:

Start - Denny Hamlin

Bench - Joey Logano

Reasons - Hamlin is a great plate racer and he is someone I would considered a heavy favorite. About five years ago, he was one of the worst drivers at this kind of track. Over night, he literally turned into a star at both Talladega and Daytona. His numbers are impressive, but he has been better at Daytona in recent memory. Still, it is hard to pass up his upside and overall potential.

B:

Start - Stenhouse Jr, Bowyer

Bench - Elliott, Dillon

Reasons - There are a lot of great options in B this week, but two drivers standout to me. Bowyer is a great plate racer and has amazing career stats at Dega. It is impressive to say the least. Then there is Ricky Stenhouse Jr. He scored two wins on plate races last season. And last season wasn't his first taste of success. Sine joining Cup (2013), he has been very good. Pretty consistent for the most part.

C:

Start - Michael McDowell

Bench - Alex Bowman

Reasons - Go with anyone that can net you a start-save is my best piece of advice in C. There is no reason to use someone who you will use 9 times in 2018. Period!

Dark Horse - Clint Bowyer

Winner - Denny Hamlin

Fantasy Nascar RaceDay Thoughts (Richmond)

Welcome to TimersSports

RaceDay thoughts -

Garry Briggs (@Garryy12):

- Kyle Larson is hungry and he should not be overlooked. I love him for tonight's race!

- In 6 of the last 8 races, the winner has been from Penske or JGR. Good chance that it will come one of those two stables. Larson and Truex Jr are the likely candidates to win outside of those two organizations though

-HMS keep improving. Elliott looked solid all day on Friday and will start on the front row

-Kurt Busch over last 5 seasons has finished in the top 10 in 80% of the races

Jeff Nathans (@JeffNathans18):

- Kyle Busch is starting deep in the field, but he will be player when he get there!

- Track position will be key

- Truex Jr will go to victory lane and probably still won't get the credit he deserve. Respect this man!

- I am not super high on Blaney, not low on him, either. I think he will be top 10 good

2018 Fantasy Nascar Update (Richmond)

Welcome to TimersSports

Fantasy Nascar Update -

1. Martin Truex Jr - Truex Jr will start on the pole and he has a fast car. He does not get credit outside of the intermediate tracks, but he is good here at Richmond. In 2 of the last 3 races at RIR, Truex Jr has led over 190 laps. In last fall's race, he had a top 3 car but finished 20th. He led a race-high 198 laps. Add on that he had a rough weekend at Bristol, I really think that the 78 team will look to put a beating on the field. Not sure, if he has a dominant car. However, I think he should be considered a serious threat to win on Saturday night.

2. Denny Hamlin - Hard to not like Hamlin this weekend. He started off the weekend on Friday with some question marks. On Friday, he had some suspension issues. But his team solved them and he qualified 4th later that day. On top of qualifying well, it is hard to overlook that Hamlin has 5 straight top 6 finishes in his last 5 races. In the 6 of the last 8 races at RIR, the winner of the event came from Penske or JGR. When you add everything up, Hamlin is certainly hard to bet against.

3. Joey Logano - So far this season, Logano has been good enough to challenge for top 5 finishes but not good enough to win. When you look at him, he is very consistent. But again, he is not the homerun pick. This weekend, he will start from 3rd and will probably challenge for a spot in the top 5. He is not a hard driver to figure out this season. Safe bet, but I would not count on him to lead laps. Otherwise, there is a lot to love about him. Richmond, afterall, is a great track for him. He has 5.2 average finish over his last 4 races. And all four races has ended in the top 10. Unless something crazy happens, he will most likely finish somewhere between 3rd and 7th most likely.

4. Kyle Larson - Larson for the second straight Bristol spring race had the car to beat, but couldn't finish the deal. I think the chevys are getting their shit together finally and Larson is the guy I am looking at to bust into victory lane first. Larson will start from 5th on Saturday night. He won here last fall and had the best-ten lap average in final practice. For whatever that is worth here, which probably not much as you would think. With that said, there is no reason to think that he won't challenge for a top 5 finish. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see him win. Larson get disrespected at places like Richmond. In his cup career, he has no finishes worse than 16th. On top of that, he has finished 2 of the last 3 races in the top 2 at Richmond. Keep eyes on the No.42 car of Kyle Larson!

5. Kevin Harvick - Harvick is always someone to watch for here at Richmond. Harvick always seems to be very good on these shorter flat tracks. Back at Phoenix, he went to victory lane. Since then, he has finishes of 35th, 5th, 2nd and 7th. Not bad finishes by any means, but he has kinda slowed down since his hot start to the season. With that said, I think that has to do with 2 of those 3 wins were on intermediate tracks. I think this 4 team gonna be the dominance team on these intermediate tracks. Then just another guy these kind of tracks. And not is not to say that, he cannot win this weekend. But he clearly not as strong. As for Richmond, I think he will be on the boarder of that top 5.

6. Brad Keselowski - Keselowski is a good bet this weekend at Richmond. Personally, I think he is due for a good run. Besides having 7.0 average finish in his last 4 races here, he also has had a lot of bad luck lately this season. In 4 of his last 5 races this season, he has finished 10th or worse. Including finishes of 15th, 10th, 23rd and 33rd. At some point, he is gonna have to have a solid finish again. However, he is starting deep in the field, but he will move forward though. As Penske or JGR has scored 6 of the last 8 wins at this joint. In 7 of his last 8 races at Richmond, he has finished 11th or better.

7. Chase Elliott - The HMS cars are looking good so far this weekend and Elliott probably has looked the best between practice and qualifying. Elliott will start from 2nd and has a good chance to redeem himself, after that crazy Bristol race. Richmond was a great track for him in the lower series, so it is shocking that he has not ran any better than he has so far. However, he does have a shot to change that on Saturday night. He has a best-career finish of 10th, which came in last fall's race. Elliott very easily could set a new career-best! I have him penciled in as a top 10 pick with obvious top 5 upside.

8. Kyle Busch - Rowdy is starting deep in the field and that shot him down my rankings, no doubt. He would had been a top 3 guy for me, if he didn't qualify so poorly. What happened was the 18 team tried to make the first round of qualifying on just one lap. Worked out for Kyle Larson, not so much for Kyle Busch. Now, the 18 car will start from 31st. The good thing is he has fresher tires than anyone else in the field. Bad news? It is tough to make passes at Richmond. It can be done, but you aren't gonna do it 20 or 30 laps though. It will take a little bit, but I believe we will see the 18 up there challenging for the win.

9. Kurt Busch - Kurt is great here at Richmond! In 6 of his last 7 races, he has finished in the top 10. Including 4 straight top 10 finishes. In 8 of his last 10 races, he has finished 10th or better. Kurt will start from 6th and looked good all day on Friday. Of course, it remains to be seen how big that is. Considering how difference the track conditions will be on Saturday night. Still, it is good to have those things going for you. I like Kurt a lot at Richmond. It is one of his best tracks and you can bet that he will finish in the top 10!

10. Ryan Blaney - There are couple guys that I could had put here, including Jimmie Johnson or Erik Jones. But I am going with Blaney. That 12 car has been great all season. Pretty much everywhere, this team has been competitive. And there been a few races where, he has looked like men among boys. So we all know that he can get it done and run up front. Richmond is a question mark for me though. He has no career finishes better than 18th, but we know it is limited data though. And he put on hell of a performance at Bristol, too. And yes I know that they are not comparable tracks. But still, that gotta give him some confidence, regardless of the outcome.

Just missed -

Jimmie Johnson
Erik Jones
Jamie Mac
Clint Bowyer
Ryan Newman

2018 Fantasy Nascar Picks (Richmond)

Welcome to TimersSports

Fantasy Nascar Picks -

Driver Group -

A:

Start - Kyle Larson

Bench - Kyle Busch

Reasons - I could go with Kyle Busch, but I don't believe he has a car tht is capable of dominating from 30th something. No there that he will be up front at some point, but he is far from locked to lead any laps. So Kyle Larson it is. I had a gut feeling about the 42 car all week and he might be steal, if other top options have problems.

B:

Start - Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman

Bench - Aric Almirola and Clint Bowyer

Reasons -There are a lot of great options for Saturday's night race. Personally, I am looking to save my studs like Elliott, Jones and Blaney. I am sure, they all will be in the top 10 for majority of the night. However, I think there will good chance other guys will also be in the nix. So I am going with Newman and Busch. The 41 car qualified up front in 6th and Kurt has impressive record here over last 5 seasons. With 8 of his last 10 races here ending in the top 10. Good bet to finish there again most likely. Newman is just a consistent force that I will take any day. Long as Elliott, Jones and Blaney don't win or lead any laps, I think it a gamble will more than pay off.

C:

Start - Daniel Hemric

Bench - William Byron

Reasons - Hemric has looked good enough for me to start him. There is no reason to waste a start with Bowman, Byron or Wallace until Kansas, in my opinion. Book closed.

Fantasy Live -78,42,22,41 and 31

2018 Fantasy Nascar Picks (Bristol)

Welcome to timerssports

Fantasy Nascar Picks -

A:

Start - Kyle Busch

Bench - Kyle Larson

Reasons - I went with the two Kyles this week and in my opinion they are the best two drivers in this grouping tier. Recent history say they have the most risk involved, too. However, it is no denying they will both be factors in the race. Personally, I am going with Kyle Busch. He is starting on the pole and looks like the driver to beat.

B:

Start - Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Jamie Mac

Bench - Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch

Reasons - With 5 minutes to go, I was all but set to go with outside polesitter Kurt Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 4 minutes to go, Kurt Busch wrecks and go to a backup car. So now, I am pretty much forced to go to a backup option. I am not loving my options, but I know Jamie Mac will give me a top 15. So I will take that over anything else I guess. Kinda bums me out, to be honest.

C:

Start - Chris Buescher

Bench - Darrell Wallace Jr

Reasons - Always go start-save at this kind of track. You never know what to expect, so it is better to be safe than sorry. I am going with Chris Buescher, as I am still holding out hope that the 43 team get it together more consistently later in the season. We will see!

2018 Fantasy Nascar Update (Bristol)

Welcome to Timerssports

Fantasy Nascar Update -

1. Kyle Busch - Rowdy is the heavy favorite going into the race. He has a great track record here and he is starting on the pole. He has looked fast all weekend and overall been happy with his car. Nobody is perfect, but I think he is closer than most are. On top of that, he has finished 7th or better in every race this season, since Atlanta. He has finished 3rd or better in every race since Las Vegas. Personally, I think Kyle will be tough to beat whenever we do go green. If you want to go to victory lane, you will have to beat the guy that has everything right now.

2. Kyle Larson - Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson both seem to be really strong at Bristol, but both also seem to get snake bitten with bad luck often, too. So there is that risk, but the upside is the sky. At a place like this, you gamble for the pay off. Larson runs better than most drivers in the field here and often has a top 5 car. On Saturday, he ran a lot of laps. In the two sessions, he ran more laps than anyone else. Which means, he didn't spend a lot of time in the garage. In fact, Larson ended practice about 10 minutes early because his team ran out of tires. He loves Bristol and I think he may be the man to beat if that top comes in. He was the only driver that went up there and practiced higher up the track. He also mentioned that his car was pretty decent on the bottom, too.

3. Joey Logano - Logano has been pretty good this weekend and I really haven't heard many bad things about him or seen many things I can complain about for the most part. He is having a nice season so far and he said that 22 car is good. His record here is solid too over the past two seasons with 9.5 average finish in his last 4 races. Including 3 top 10 finishes. His 9.5 average finish ranked 5th among all drivers in the series since April 2016. If I was a betting man, I would place him the 3rd-7th place range for him to finish. Realistically, he is more likely to finish in the latter part of that range, but I love his upside. He will be good enough to challenge for a top 5 finish.

4. Brad Keselowski - It is really amazing how much bad luck Keselowski has had since that 2015 season. More specifically that spring 2015 rain filled race. Just before the race was placed under red flag conditions (for several hours), him and teammate Joey Logano wrecked battling for the lead. Keselowski has had just one top 10 finish since then. Of course, many times he had just simple bad luck. Something always seem to derail his good performances. With the way the Ford has performed this season, I think he will have a shot at a top 5 to top 10 finish. I think pit selection will be huge and we all know what that can do with his elite pit crew. Not saying it is going to win him the race, but it certainly vaults him above some other contenders starting deeper in the field. He will start 3rd, which also plays a major factor into my rankings. With one groove, it will be tough pass until that second groove eventually comes in. The guys with a solid car up front will greatly benefit in the early going, in my opinion.

5. Denny Hamlin - Hamlin is starting from mid-pack and he struggled often on Friday and Saturday. But at end of final practice, they got that 11 car looking pretty good. It didn't look like he was fighting that car like he was earlier in the session. His lap times were competitive, too. Hamlin has a long road ahead of him, but he knows how to get through the field. Some people may write him off, but I am not ready to do that yet. The 11 car will at least finish in the top 10.  He is someone that I will have my eye on!

6. Ricky Stenhouse Jr - I should probably rank him lower than this, but I think that 17 car is gonna be really good in the race. On Friday, he qualified 4th. He followed that up on Saturday and posted the best-20 lap average in the morning session. He remained fast in final practice. Stenhouse Jr also has impressive track record here, and many (including myself) would ranked this as his best track. Don't be fooled, this 17 car will be a serious contender whenever we do indeed go racing.

7. Martin Truex Jr - Aside from Texas and Daytona, Truex Jr has not finished outside of the top 5. And he will start further back than usual, but I do believe that the 78 car will finish in the top 10 when it is over. This is one of the best drivers in the series and has ran very well in recent years here. As for this weekend, he has enough speed to get a top 10 finish probably. I think it may be difficult for him to win, but you are a fool if you think he doesn't finish in the top 10. I cannot recall the last time, he did not challenge for a top 10 in a race. He will be fine!

8. Ryan Blaney - I am not super high on Blaney this weekend as most people are, but he has ran well at Bristol in the past (WHEN he finishes on the lead lap) during his young cup career. And it does not hurt that he is one of the top rides in the series. Still, I am not super confident in Ryan Blaney. In practice, it did not sound like he was where he wanted the car to be at overall. I really don't have a lot more to say about him. So far in his career, Blaney has been top 11 or bust. Not exactly smoothing if you ask me. I have question about Ryan this weekend, but he has finished 3 of his last 5 races this season in the top 5.

9. Kevin Harvick - Harvick is throwing some major red flags so far this weekend, but for me it is hard to rank him any lower than this. He has been one of the best drivers in the series every week so far in 2018. And you don't go to complete trash in an instant. He has struggled with his cars (he went to backup on Friday), but I got to believe that they will fix him up before 500 miles is up. The 4 team will figure it out and get him at least in the top 10. Even with his starting dead last, I think he has a good shot at a top 10 finish. I have my doubts about the top 5 though.

10. Chase Elliott - This last spot was really tough between Elliott, Johnson and Jones. I don't love any of them honestly. I think all three will hover from 9th-14th range. One of them will probably sneak into the top 10 and finish there. Elliott probably showed the most of three on Saturday. I doubt if he contends for anything other than a latter finish in the top 10, but I have been wrong before though. This is a solid track for Elliott. He has 11.0 average finish in his 4 career starts. He has finished 7th and 4th in two career spring races.

Just missed on -

2018 Fantasy Nascar Picks (Texas)

Welcome to Timerssports

Fantasy Nascar Picks -

Driver Group Game -

A:

Start - Kevin Harvick

Bench - Kyle Busch

Reasons - I went with what I thought was the two best drivers in this grouping tier. They are both among the top 3 as expected. Between Harvick and Busch, the only difference is I feel like Harvick is the safer choice of the two. I am not too confidence about the practice results, so I am leaning toward Harvick right now.

B:

Starter - Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch

Bench - Aric Almirola, Ryan Blaney

Reasons -Early in the season, I am leaning on the SHR Fords and that exactly what I am doing this weekend. Kurt Busch is starting on the pole, so he is a lock to start. Then there is Bowyer, Almirola or Blaney. I am going with Bowyer just because he is starting up front and has the momentum on his side. With that said, I would love to go with Ryan Blaney for the race. However, I feel like it is safer to stay on the SHR train for now.

C:

Start - Alex Bowman

Bench - William Byron

Reasons -HMS has looked better than expected this weekend so far. So I could go with either one really, but William is starting pretty far back after changing his engine. So Bowman it is, I will save William for another weekend.

Fantasy Live - Harvick, Blaney, Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson (garage driver)

Reasons - No fooling around this week and looking for a driver under the radar. Going top heavy with SHR power in Harvick, Bowyer and Busch. Add in young guns of Blaney and Elliott. The garage driver was the question though. Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr or Jimmie Johnson. As much as I would like to use Busch or Truex Jr, I used both both three times already. So why not Jimmie Johnson? HMS cars are looking more appealing than usual, so may not be a terrible idea

Dark Horse - Chase Elliott

Winner -Kevin Harvick
