2019 Fantasy Nascar Update (Atlanta)

Welcome to TimersSports

Fantasy Nascar Update -

1. Kevin Harvick - Harvick struggled on Friday with some power steering issues and qualifying in mid-pack. On Saturday's afternoon, Harvick's team fixed him up and he went to the whip in that final practice session. He had the 2nd-best 20 lap average and looked very fast. Harvick has posted dominant performances almost every season since joining the #4 team. He has this place figured out and I would not bet against him. In my mind, he's the favorite!

2. Kyle Larson - Larson was very good here two years ago and finished 2nd. Last season, he was okay and finished in 9th. He will start from 7th in this year's race and has seems to have a lot of long run speed. He was 2nd fastest on the best-ten lap average chart and posted the best-20 lap average. He's so good at running the top and that exactly where you can expect him to be running! That 42 car will be one of the cars to beat, if Larson can keep it off the wall!

3. Kyle Busch - Busch is starting clear in the back, but I don't think that will stop him from contending for the race win at some point. He looked very good, before going to a backup car. If he didn't go to a backup, he probably would had been in my top 2 entering the race. Guys with fast cars will eventually find themselves up at the front. I have zero concerns about the speed in Kyle's car. He's talent enough to move through the field. If anything, we get to see Kyle put on a show coming through the field!

4. Martin Truex Jr - Truex Jr will start in the backend of the top 10, but I think he will rise to the top before the end of it. Atlanta is a Martin's kind of track, he loves these worn out racetracks. He was very good on them in 2018 and he should be just as good in JGR's equipment. Over the last few seasons, there has been only a few drivers better than Martin at the 1.5 mile tracks. Since 2015, he has posted finishes between 5th and 8th at Atlanta. He also does not have a driver rating below 103.1. He finished 7th and 8th in 2016 and 2017, after starting 9th. I think he gonna be even better in this season's race.

5. Clint Bowyer - I am usually not high on Clint Bowyer, but I think he will pretty decent in the race. Will he back up his weekend so far? That's questionable, because he has been good on both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, he will start from the 3rd position. He topped the final practice session on Saturday, however, he did not post a long run in that final practice. That's a little worrisome, but it isn't end of the world. He didn't exactly sound confident, but he also didn't sound frustrated, either. Like many others, I think he don't know what to expect in the race! It helps that he is teammates with a guy such as Kevin Harvick. I think when it all said and done, he will finish between 3rd and 7th. That's the area, I am looking at!

6. Denny Hamlin - I am not really excited about Denny Hamlin this weekend, I don't he will challenge for the win. With that said, he is starting up front in the top 5. Even though, that doesn't mean too much. He doesn't have nearly much as speed as his teammate did, but I don't see how he finishes outside of the top 10. I think that 11 car is good enough to finish between 6th and 9th. I really don't know what to really say about him overall. He's good enough to challenge for a top 10, but you don't get the feeling he will contend for a top 5 finish, either, though. Hamlin is a fantasy pick that I refer as ''Fantasy Nascar Hell'' kind of pick. Big name that will deliver a solid finish, but you aren't exactly thrilled with, either. You want a top 10 finish? He might be what you are looking for!

7. Aric Almirola - At end of last season, Aric and the 10 team started to figure things out on this type of track. On Friday, he went out and won the pole. On Saturday, he looked good again. I wouldn't say that he will back up that pole speed. However, I do believe he will contend for a top 10 finish. He will most likely fall back and settle in between 7th-11th place. He may be able to jump a few guys in front of him, but I think 5th place is his ceiling. Still, I wouldn't complain about it!

8. Kurt Busch - Kurt has been very solid here at Atlanta for a long time and he looks good again this weekend. He will start from the 8th starting position and looked like a top 10 driver in Saturday's practice session. He was consistent throughout the session and that what I was kinda expected entering the weekend. He doesn't have the speed of his teammate, but I think he may be a safer pick than him, though.

9. Joey Logano - I didn't think Joey was bad in Saturday's final practice, I thought he was overall pretty good. However, he is starting from 27th position, though. Okay that isn't very ideal, but I think he will be fine and race his way into the top 10 by the second stage. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if he got there by end of the first stage. Personally, I am not overly excited about the Penske Fords this weekend. They been decent, but none of them actually stand out as contenders for the win! Joey is probably the best among them!

10. Erik Jones - Last season, Jones was consistent on this type of track. So far this weekend, he haven't lit the world on fire. But I think the JGR cars will all be fast in the race. I am a big fan of his teammates, so there's no reason why Jones cannot at least finish in the top 10. He had some power steering issues at end of practice, though. I am not sure what's the status on that problem, but I would expect them to correct it before the race. If they did, you gotta love his upside for the race.

Just missed

2019 Fantasy Nascar Picks (Atlanta)

Welcome to Timerssports

Fantasy Nascar Picks -

Driver Group Game:

A:

Starter - Kevin Harvick

Bench - Chase Ellliott

Reasons = The A-list is all over the place this weekend, but I think Kevin Harvick will have one of the cars to beat in Sunday's race. His poor qualifying effort actually give him some extra value. He battled steering issues on Friday, but sounds like those problems has been resolved. Bad news for the competition! As for Elliott, I am just not a huge fan of his this weekend. None of the HMS cars looked top 5 good, not that I expected it,either, though.

B:

Start - Clint Bowyer, Aric Almirola

Bench - Erik Jones, Ryan Blaney

Reasons - I don't know how the race will play out, but these SHR fords are pretty damn fast here at Atlanta. I think two of the four will eventually finish in the top 5. Bowyer looked like the man to beat this weekend, but he didn't make any long runs in practice, though. It's a little worrisome, but I think he will be fine overall. Aric looking solid, too. He will start on the pole and has a good chance to lead some in the early going!

C:

Start - Michael McDowell

Bench - Chris Buescher

Reasons - McDowell will most likely not stay in the top 12, but he has shown enough speed for me to keep him as my starter. I really do like him this weekend and Buescher haven't really given me any reasons to start him for that far back in the pack

Dark Horse - Kurt Busch

Winner - Kyle Larson

2019 Fantasy Nascar Picks (Daytona)

Welcome to TimersSports

Fantasy Nascar Picks -

Driver Group Game -

A:

Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano

Reasons - I am going with the Penske Fords in A at the Daytona 500. I think one of them will lead a lot of laps and I expect them all to be very stout. When you look at the other options in A, I don't really get a good feeling from any of them. A few of them might snag top 5 or top 10 finishes, but Penske been so damn good on these plate tracks. Wanna bet against them? Go ahead!

B:

Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon, Paul Menard and Ryan Newman

Reasons - B is always fun at Daytona and Talladega, I usually find a good combo and use them for all four races. Last season, I used Dinger and Busecher as my starters in the DGG. Needless to say, I nailed it in B! This season neither of them are available! So obviously I am gonna have to use different starters. Bowyer and Dillon are among the best two plate racers in the field. So they are locks. My other two options will be Menard and Newman. I know some of you will question the Newman pick, but he's super consistent on the plate tracks. 9 times out of 10, he will finish somewhere in the teens. Pretty much like every other track! Not gonna lie, I will probably start Menard and Newman

C:

Ty Dillon and Chris Buescher

Reasons - Most people will use Jamie Mac or Michael McDowell here in C, but I am going against that logic. I am using two other guys and play the numbers. Buescher has been solid over the past two seasons. Very consistent. Ty Dillon is just on here because I feel like being different. Plus he's not a bad plate racer himself. That 13 car has a great history of running well on this type of track!

Dark Horse - TBD

Winner - TBD

2019 Fantasy Nascar Sleepers & Dark Horses (Daytona)

Welcome to Timerssports

Sleepers -

Paul Menard - Menard has been a great sleeper in recent plate races and behind the No.21 Ford, it shouldn't be any difference. He has connections with Team Penske and that alone should give some serious upside. Not to mention, he has a history as a solid plate racer! Over his last four races here at Daytona, he has posted 3 top 10 finishes. Over his last three Daytona 500 races, he has no finishes worse than 18th. Since the start of the 2010 season at the Daytona 500 (9 races), he has posted 6 finishes of 18th or better. In 5 of those races, he finished in the top 10. Including in his past two Daytona 500 ending in 6th or better! One last selling point on Menard? In his last 8 races at Daytona and Talladega, he has compiled 6 finishes of 12th or better. So over the last two seasons, he has finished in the top 12 in 75% of the time!

Chris Buescher - I was on the Buescher's train last season on multiple fantasy Nascar's formats and I really cashed in! So why jump off now? Entering the Daytona 500 in 2019, he currently has 3 straight top 10 finishes at Daytona. He is not the first driver that we think of here at Daytona. He is not even in the top 20. This guy is a hidden gem right now! Sure, he has a lot of luck the past two seasons, but I have a really good feeling about him once again in 2019. He has a really good track on these plate races since July 2016. In that span, he has only two finishes worse than 22nd. In his last 8 races on these plate tracks, he has finished in the top 21 in 7 races. In 5 of those 7 races, he has finished 15th or better. He swept the top 10 in 2018, but it isn't the first time he has found success on this type of track!

Dark Horses -

Aric Almirola - I put Aric as a dark horse because I really do believe he has one of the better chances to win at the 500. He is a very underrated plate racer and I wouldn't be shocked, if he did go to victory lane! He has been very consistent at Daytona over the last 4 seasons and has posted 6 top 15 finishes in his last 8 races. In 5 of his last 6 Daytona 500 races, he has also finished 15th or better. In his last three Daytona 500 races, he has finishes of 11th, 4th and 12th. Over the last 9 Daytona 500 races, there has been a different winner in every race. Aric has not won the Daytona 500, yet! But I think that all could change as he certainly has enough success in recent races here!

Austin Dillon - Dillon is a legit contender here at Daytona and should be a major threat to win! Since joining the #3 car, he has been an unstoppable force with 8 Top 14 finishes in 10 starts. He had a rough season in 2017, where he had finishes of 19th and 36th. Other than that? He has been nearly flawless in terms of finishing. In 5 of his last 7 races here at Daytona, he has finished in the top 10! Over his last 5 Daytona 500 races, he has no finishes worse than 19th. While he has 4 finishes inside the top 15 as well. Between the two plate tracks, you would start him here. This is Austin's best track and frankly it isn't very close!
