Fantasy Nascar Post Practice Sleepers (Charlotte)

Welcome to TimersSports

Sleepers -

Austin Dillon: Dillon was one of my favorite fantasy sleepers before qualifying on Thursday and he made me feel even better afterwards. He qualified 14th and looked very good in every practice session. He have speed in the #3 car and was stronger than I expected on the long run. I thought he had one of the better races on the longer runs. Remember Dillon have never finished worse than 16th at Charlotte in three career starts. I could see him sneaking in the top 10 before tonight's race is over, but I think it more realistic to say he is a top 15 driver though. You can count on Austin Dillon to be a solid fantasy in your lineup in most fantasy formats!

Aric Almirola: Almirola like Dillon was also made my original post back on Wednesday, so no surprise he lands back on it again. Almirola showed speed since unloading and will from the 9th starting position. He might not contain that position, but he easily a top 15 driver after watching practice. More encouragingly, he been one of the best sleepers over the past several weeks. More noticeable he have 3 top 10 finishes in his past 4 races including a pair of top 5 finishes dating back to Richmond. It would not be crazy to say he makes it 4 out of 5.

Casey Mears: Mears have been pretty good all weekend and will start from 21st. They practiced pretty well. He won't blow anyone away during the race, however Mears sounded pretty happy about his car after final practice. For good reason too as he posted the 9th quickest lap in final practice. He posted the 18th quickest lap in the 2nd practice. Would not be the first time that Mears have ran respectably at Charlotte. I don't expect anything beyond a possible top 20 run, even though I think it more realistic to think he is more of a top 25 fantasy option!

Fantasy Nascar RaceDay Thoughts (Charlotte)

Welcome to TimersSports

Happy Raceday. Setting your fantasy team can be difficult , especially with everything being factored in. Below our group of experts give their thoughts on today race (Including their final
picks).

Kate Roswell (@CrazyKateNascar):

-JGR have 3 of the first 5 starting positions and all four inside the top 8! The man who starts from 2nd looked real good in final practice and could easily drive away from the field.

-What wrong with the CGR cars? They qualified pretty bad. I don't think they are that bad, but they were back in the 600. So there little concern there with them.

-Austin Dillon is someone to watch out for. He starts from inside the top 15 and have legit long run speed.

-Expect to see comers and goers all night long. I don't see one car dominating tbh.

Garry Briggs (@Garryy12):

- Joey Logano starts from 3rd and could be one of the best fantasy values tonight. He simply being overlooked. Only once since Daytona have Logano finished worse than 10th. He was fast in final practice as well.

-Aric Almirola was my favorite sleeper headed into practice 1 on Thursday and he have done nothing to change my mind. He qualified very well and should be a top 15 driver!

-I think Kyle Busch  will be very tough to beat tonight. He hinted towards wanting to put on a 4-team performance earlier this week. He just might. He just might.

-I am not very big on Kasey Kahne. Yes yes I know this is considered his best track. However I am just not feeling him. A top 15 is the best I suspect from him.

Matt Aleza (@MattAleza):

-Greg Biffle isn't someone who I really trust and I get the feeling, he will burn a lot o people. He wasn't too impressive in final practice.

-I really like Jimmie Johnson tonight. He have a fast car and should contend at some point in the race.

-I think someone from JGR finds victory lane again at Charlotte. They have been on it for nearly 2.5 months.

-Kevin Harvick have drifted off people's radars, but don't be fooled. He is fast and he will be a heavy factor tonight.

Fantasy Nascar Update (Charlotte)

Welcome to TimersSports

We are at Charlotte for Saturday's night race! Qualifying and one lone practice session was held on Thursday afternoon. That was followed up on Friday with two more additional practice sessions. I personally think it very tough to judge practice when it held during the day for a night race. One of the reasons I hate night races anymore. They use to be special because there was so few of them, now they are getting to be a pain!

Let get started!

A:

1. Kyle Busch - Rowdy is atop of my list this weekend? You darn right he is! There are many good reasons to consider him as one of the favorites for Saturday's race. Not only does Kyle start up front, but Joe Gibbs Racing as a whole been running very well. Just three races ago, Kyle Busch dominated the most recent 1.5 mile racetrack at Chicagoland. Not to mention, he have a impressive record here dating back to the 2007 season. In that span, he have finished worse than 10th in 3 races! So he have 13 Top 10 finishes in his past 16 starts at Charlotte. That's insane folks! He was pretty strong in both practice sessions on Friday and looked top notch on the long runs. I think he will get to the lead early and often and finish up front as well.

My Overall Ranking: 1st

2. Kevin Harvick: He looked real solid in final practice and showed some long run speed, so don't worry about his starting position. I am sure he will drive through the field and contend for a top 5 finish. Charlotte have been a very good venue for Harvick since joining SHR and there no reason why that should change. I have him across line somewhere in the top 3 when the checkers wave.

My Overall Ranking: 2nd

3. Matt Kenseth: Kenseth will start on the pole, alongside teammate Kyle Busch! Kenseth wasn't quite as good as Busch, but I think he will pull away early in the race though. He showed good speed in both sessions and should make a solid fantasy option in most formats. He is even more useful in Yahoo Fantasy Racing since you get rewarded 10 bonus points for leading a lap. He showed solid long run speed, so he should be able to stay up front with the leaders. He have a strong track record here like his teammates, so that definitely helps him in terms of the trustworthy department. He also have won 4 races over the past 7 Cup races, dating all the way back to Michigan where he absolutely dominated. More importantly he have won 3 of his 5 races from the pole position or the 2nd starting position!

My Overall Ranking: 3rd

4. Joey Logano: Logano will roll off from 3rd, but he is very much under the radar after a lackluster 10th place finish at Dover. He been a non-factor in the chase so far, even though he have finishes of 6th, 3rd and 10th. I think Penske is a little behind lately, but Logano looked strong on the long runs in both practices. Logano is the one of two drivers in the field to never have a DNF at Charlotte with least 10 starts. The other driver is Martin Truex Jr. Logano have made 13 starts with a 10.2 average finish. In those 13 starts, he have put together 7 top 10 finishes and 12 top 20 finishes. He also been one of the most consistent drivers in the series this season. 14 of the past 16 races have ended in 10th or better. In fact, 23 of the 29 races this season have ended inside the top 10 for Logano. Yeah he been pretty solid. I think he get back on track with a top 5 finish on Saturday.

My Overall Ranking: 5th

5. Dale Jr: There were a few drivers I considered for the final spot in this tier, but i decided to go with Dale Jr. I don't usually list Dale Jr, unless he is fast. He was exactly that on Thursday and contained that speed on Friday as well. He will roll off from 12th and looked to be one of the quickest cars on the track at times in the three practice sessions! I thought he struggled at end of final practice though. His track record since joining HMS is inconsistent, but I don't think that will matter too much. I feel like he is close to a top 5 fantasy option headed into Saturday's race. The 88 team seems to be able to improve throughout the race, so don't be shocked to see him finish in the top 5 when the checkers wave.

My Overall Ranking: 6th

Other Options - Jimmie Johnson (7th), Brad Keselowski (8th), Denny Hamlin (10th), Jeff Gordon (11th) and Ryan Newman (12th)

B:

1. Kurt Busch: Kurt Busch was arguably the best driver on Friday! At times he was, and I think he is a top 5 driver headed into the race. Earlier this season he led 118 laps to a 10th place run. So I am not all too shocked to see Busch near top of the speed charts in practice. Can he deliver the product? I don't know to be honest. He always seems to have the speed, but he haven't been able to finish out races and that been a issue for him all season. I have him across the line in 4th, but I see him finish somewhere from 3rd-8th place range though. He is the best fantasy option in this tier and I think he is one of the few legitmate contenders headed to the race.

My Overall Ranking: 4th

2. Carl Edwards: Edwards looked pretty good in both sessions on Saturday. He will roll off from 8th starting position on Saturday night! He wasn't as good as teammate Kyle Busch, but he was a top 10 driver though. A lot of people forget that Edwards won earlier this season at Charlotte with fuel mileage. Unfortunately I don't think he will get that lucky again. I think he will run and finish in the latter part of the top 10.

 My Overall Ranking: 9th

3. Martin Truex Jr:  Truex Jr was good I guess in both sessions on Friday, but I wouldn't call him great though. He had top 10 speed at times, but don't think he have the car where he wants it though. He should be a top 15 driver with top 10 potential. Anytime Truex comes to the track, he will have the chance to finish in the top 10. However I wouldn't bank on it based off of practice. I have him finishing inside the top 15, but I would say it closer to the top 12 though. The one thing I dislike about him is he seems to fade late in races and not be able to finish them out. Reminds me a lot of Kurt Busch this season. I have him across the line in 13th, but I say he finishes 2-3 positions of that spot.

My Overall Ranking: 13th

4. Kasey Kahne: I am probably ranking Kahne too high, as I fully know that Kahne is one of the most inconsistent drivers in Nascar. However I think it very hard to overlook his record here. He wasn't too good in either practice sessions on Friday, but I am banking on him to improve during the race. I think Kahne will finish somewhere in the top 15, but I don't think he knocks off a top 10. When Hendrick gives him a fast car, he will run very well (like last week.) If they give him a car that is a little off, then he'll struggle and finish around 15th. So far I haven't seen anything that indicate he will run near the front!

My Overall Ranking: 14th

5. Jamie Mac: I could have put a few drivers in this spot, but I went with JMac. He showed speed in both practice sessions on Friday and should be able to find his way through the field. Both the CGR cars struggled in qualifying, but it seems like JMac have a solid car though. He starts all the way back in 30th, but I don't think that will be a problem. Even though it pretty risky to use him considering both CGR cars struggled back in the 600 as well. Regardless I think there a lot of upside to selecting him, as he could be a powerful punch in certain fantasy formats!

My Overall Ranking: 15th

Other Options - Clint Bowyer (16th), Kyle Larson (17th), Aric Almirola (18th) and Austin Dillon (20th)

C:

1. Ryan Blaney: Blaney looks to be the best driver in this tier and will roll off from 16th starting position. He posted the 4th-best ten lap average in final practice and had the 17th fastest lap overall. He run right around there as well. I don't know if he will be able to break into the top 15 for the race (wouldn't be shocking), but I think he is a lock for a top 20 finish. I have across the line in 19th, but I see him finishing closer to the top 15 than top 20 though.

My Overall Ranking: 19th

2. David Ragan: Ragan looked to be worthy of top 20 potential, but I think he finishes somewhere just outside of that. It wouldn't be crazy for him to finish ahead of Blaney, but I don't think it happens unless Blaney screw up in the race. I have him across the line in 20th-ish, but I am not sure what to expect from him. He been crazy inconsistent all season long, even more so since joining MWR.

My Overall Ranking: 22nd

3. Danica Patrick: Patrick have struggled since unloading overall and I am not expecting too much from her. I wasn't too impressed by her in final practice. Before that I thought she was about a top 25 driver headed into the race. I just don't like her too much. At this point of the season, she isn't in my good graces after bad finish after bad finish. So I am pretty much trying to avoid if possible in almost every single format. This isn't exactly a Danica either. She haven't really had a breakout race yet. At best, she will finish in the low to mid 20s.

My Overall Ranking: 26th

Other Options - Justin Allgaier (29th)

Fantasy Nascar Sleepers & Busts (Charlotte)

Welcome to TimersSports

Sleepers -

Aric Almirola: If you have followed my fantasy advice over the years, then you probably realized I really love to ride certain fantasy options at certain parts of the season. For example, Paul Menard is almost a lock to make my list early in the season. Now it seems to be Aric Almirola! For good reason too. Aric finished 4th at Richmond and 5th last week at Dover. Not to mention, he also finished 10th back at Chicagoland. I don't know about anyone else, but I would take a top 10 finish from Aric! Heck I would take a top 15 finish from Aric Almirola! He is arguably the most underrated driver in the series considering he drives from a lackluster Cup team. His stats here aren't that impressive, but track records are so overrated in my opinion. When I am evaluating a driver as a potential pick, I look for three things: 1) Level of Consistency. 2) Current momentum. 3) Current Fantasy value. Aric Almirola fits the bill to a tee and is my top fantasy sleeper headed into the weekend!

Austin Dillon: Dillon seems to land on my fantasy radar more often than not and usually get a spot on my sleeper list! This week is no different as I think he can have a possible top 10 run, but I think it safer to wait on practice to make a bold prediction like that. As of right now I think he is legitimately a top 15 driver at Charlotte! Earlier this season at the 600, he was strong and had his best race here. The shocking thing is he finished a career-worst 16th, which should tell you a lot of his potential the second time around at this venue. It should be noted that he only have made three starts at Charlotte so far in his car though. When looking at those three races, he have held an 15.3 average running position which is pretty strong for Dillon. He actually held 12.0 average running position back in May and ran inside the top 15 for nearly the entire race. He is one of my personal favorite sleepers this weekend and will defientely be on my radar as we approach the race!

Kyle Larson: Larson get a bad rep at Charlotte because of his poor track record, however he is a very young driver with only a few races under his belt. His performance earlier this season at the 600 didn't help his case any, but I do believe he have will eventually turn it around at this place! Larson is obviously a very talented driver who have been running top 10 on a weekly basis lately. That is very good for his fantasy value. Since Pocono (back in early August), only twice have he finished worse than 13th! So you know he have the consistency to go along with the speed. I felt like that been Larson's biggest foe in 2015. The big question is can Larson take the momentum he have and turn it in another quality finish? I think there a good possibility of that. I will be intensely watching Larson in practice and qualifying leading up the race!

Busts -

Jimmie Johnson: Johnson was eliminated from the chase at Dover and now goes to a track where he have struggled to find consistent finishes at. He use to dominate this place, but he haven't been the same the past few seasons. He haven't been terrible, but he only have 4 top 10 finishes over his past 11 races at Charlotte, even though they all have ended in 4th or better. Okay that may be a bit too large of a sample size. Over his past 5 races here, he have finished 17th or worse three times. His other two races have ended in 1st and 4th though. Regardless I don't know what to really to expect from Johnson considering he have two teammates still batting for the championship. I wonder how good his equipment will be and what is going through his mind after Dover. Those questions should be answered very quickly though.

Clint Bowyer: I needed a 2nd bust selection, so I went with Clint Bowyer just because I think he is too risky of a fantasy choice to use at Charlotte. There only two places I have considered Bowyer at and that been the road courses. Otherwise I don't really trust him. For some reason, he is getting more than a little love from the fantasy racing community. His track record here isn't that great and he haven't really ran that well this season. His best effort came back in 2012 when he went to victory lane in his 2nd career start with MWR at this venue. Since? Only top 10 finish and only 3 top 15 finishes overall in the past 5 races. His most recent races here haven't ended well either. Back in May, he finished 20th and that where he pretty much ran all night long. Last October he finshed 43rd due to a engine problem. The race before that he finished 17th and was never really much of a contender. If he finishes inside the top 15, then it would probably be a good day for him. Knowing how his season have gone, I wouldn't bank on it!

Fantasy Nascar Picks (Charlotte)

Welcome to TimersSports

These last few weeks been like pulling nails in terms of having a decent points week! It's so frustrating because it only take one bad fantasy pick to screw up your entire day. Unfortunately that exactly how the first three races of the chase have panned out for most players. We are at Charlotte this week, so we have a opportunity to turn it around! I would highly recommend looking at who been strong on the 1.5 mile racetracks. And should be okay this week! Long as lady luck is our on side. Let get started!

**Check back throughout the week, as I will update this post!

Yahoo -

A:

Start - Matt Kenseth (7)

Bench - Kevin Harvick (3)

Reasons - No way in hell am I benching the pole sitter! So Matt Kenseth get the call over Harvick. Plus I don't think Harvick have a car capable of dominating like he had at Dover. Even though he was very fast in final practice. With only three starts left, I think I have to bench Harvick. I know for a fact I will least get two more and a third one can be easily found. I think they finish close together when the checkers wave!

B:

Start - Austin Dillon (6), Aric Almirola (6)

Bench - Kasey Kahne (4), Carl Edwards (2)

Reasons -Tough decisions this week as nobody of my four choices really stood out. I decided to go with Dillon and Almirola. Both are under the radar, so hopefully they both can finish inside the top 15. That's all I can really ask for out of them. I think it more than doable. I liked Kahne much more than before practice and qualifying. Same with Edwards! Edwards wasn't bad, but I do think he may be more useful at other places coming up. Like Texas, Phoenix, Martinsville, etc.

C:

Start: Ryan Blaney (5)

Bench: Danica Patrick (2)

Reasons -Real easy choice in C! Blaney looked miles better than Danica all weekend and should easily outrun her during the race. Danica have struggled most of the weekend and would be lucky to finish inside the top 25.

Fantasy Live - Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Casey Mears and Michael Annett

Sleeper - Aric Almirola

Winner - Kyle Busch
