RaceDay Thoughts -
Jeff Nathans (@JeffNathans18):
- There is a reason why I didn't put together a Fantasy Preview or a Fantasy Update this week for Daytona. That is because, I don't think it will matter. You can use all the stats or practice data you want, but at end of the day I don't think it will be worth a damn. You cannot predict plate races, so I am not going to try.
- Expect the JGR cars to be the cars to beat in night's race. They have been impressive all year in terms of speed and I just don't think anything will change, especially if they all get aligned
-Daytona is a great place for these smaller teams to shine and finish up front. So don't be afraid to make an out of the box pick. One big wreck could make or break your night. If you avoid it, then you just may position yourself to be in victory lane. Right, Aric Almirola?
-I think we will see some fireworks in tonight's race. The 500 was a pretty clam race (lately that been the case), but the summer race seems to be more wrecks though.
Garry Briggs (@Garryy12):
- I hate plate races, but boy do I love digging deep and employing unthinkable sleepers. It like telling your fantasy league, ''Hey I am crazy, deal with it.'' I mean c'mon it Daytona, take a little risk (or a lot). If you deep in your standings, what do you have to lose?
-I think someone from JGR will be in victory lane in tonight's race. They have been really strong in the first two restrictor plate races. Hard seeing them not be heavy factors tonight
-Regan Smith might be someone to defientely consider, as he have finished top 10 in 4 of his past 6 plate races. Also like Casey Mears. He have 5 Top 10 finishes in his past 6 races at Daytona
-Go with your gut is probably my best advice
Matt Aleza (@MattAleza):
- Not sure why so many people are concerned about Dale Jr. Okay sure he burned us twice this season already, but he is the best at this type of racetrack. I think he have something for the Gibbs guys.
-I believe Kenseth and Hamlin have been the best two drivers this season on the restrictor plate tracks. I think they will get the front early and lead a lot of laps with their JGR teammates.
-How about some love to Smoke? Coming off a win at Sonoma (first in 3 seasons) and now at one of his best races of the years. He been a stud in the summer Daytona race in the past, so why not give him a look? My only concern he will hang out in the back and try to point race
-Austin Dillon is my sleeper for tonight's race. Something about Austin Dillon and Daytona that just goes together. He always runs well here and I think that continues as well
