Welcome to TimersSports
Last week wasn't a very productive outing. Only correctly predicting 12 of 21 (53 for 83 after 4 weeks) , so it was a bit crazy with 6 teams on bye. In week 5 , there so many questions to be answer. Can disappointed studs rebound? Will hot unknowns continue to live the glory? That and much more. Let dig in!
*Scoring is based off CBS Sports standard scoring
Starts -
Quarterbacks:
Phillip Rivers: Rivers have started the season off very well. Scoring multiple Touchdowns in the past 3 games. While ranking near the top in fantasy points. Over his first 4 games , Rivers have averaged 25.5 points per game. While posting 288.7 yards , 2.2 Touchdowns, and 0.2 Interceptions per game. Very good numbers which should continue against the Jets. Jets have allowed 25.5 fantasy points per game (3rd-most) and have given up 253.7 , 2.2 TDs , and 0.0 Interceptions per game.
Russell Wilson: Wilson have scored around 23 fantasy points per game in 3 starts in 2014. Washington defense vs Quarterbacks have been fantasy owners best friend. In week 4 ,they allowed 5 TDs vs Eli Manning. In 4 games , Washington ranked 4th in fantasy points allowed 25.4 against Quarterbacks. While allowing 256 yards , 2.2 Touchdowns , and 0.5 Interceptions per game. Wilson should make them look silly on Monday night.
Big Ben: Big Ben owners get a fantastic matchup vs fantasy football worst defense. Jacksonville have allowed the most fantasy points against Quarterbacks. While allowing 29.6 fantasy points , 344.2 yards , 2.7 TDs , and 0.2 Interceptions. Big Ben have scored multiple times in each of his last 2 games. While scoring least two touchdowns in his last 5 of 6 road contests.
Running Backs -
Rashad Jennings: In week 4 , it was a lot of passing done for New York. Especially since Washington shut down NYG run game early. In week 5 , Atlanta next on the schedule. In 4 games , Atlanta ranks number 1 in points allows against running backs. They have allowed 31.1 ppg , 135.2 yards and 2 TDs per game. Jennings ranked 5th among backs with 13.3 fantasy points per game. While posting 341 yards and 2 TDs in 4 games.
Matt Asiata: Asisata for now holds the starting role , but for how long is in question. Especially with rookie Jerick McKinnon relevant in Minnesota. Nevertheless he get a fantastic matchup against Green Bay on Thursday. Green Bay run defense ranks 3rd in points allowed to running back. While allowing 25.2 fantasy points per game (4th most) and allowing least 1TD in every home game this season. Asiata ranked 9th in total fantasy points. While averaging 12.8 per game game.
Gio Bernard: New England have allowed 5th most points against running back. While allowing 24.3 fantasy points, 125.5 yards and 0.5 TDs per game. Also it noticeable that New England have allowed 4 TDs against running backs in receiving. Gio Bernard have 12 catches (4 receptions per games) for 148 yards. Just added value.
Wide Receivers -
Vincent Jackson: Jackson get a great matchup vs New Orleans. The Saints defense have allowed the 5th most points to Wide Receivers. While allowing 193.2 yards and 5 TDs. On average the Saints are are allowing 26.2 fantasy points. Jackson have scored in back to back games. Expect Glennon throw a lot. And Jackson is the only reliable guy in Tampa.
Michael Crabtree: Crabtree is easily the top target in San Fran offense. Especially with Davis getting banged up again against Eagles. In week 5 , Kansas City comes to town. So far in 2014 , KC have allowed the 13th most fantasy points per game. Crabtree have scored in 2 of the last 3 games.
Jordy Nelson: Nelson is the league best Wide Receiver. It pretty easy to be a top Wide out with the league best Quarterback on the team. Nelson leads the league in targets (49) , receptions (33) , yardage (459) and 2nd in fantasy points per game (16.0). Vikings has allowed the 15th most fantasy points to Wide Receivers.
Tight Ends -
Martellus Bennett: Bennett won't keep this pace not a chance. But his recent success is very promising. Bennett ranks number 1 among Tight Ends after 4 games. Including 37 targets , 29 receptions , 295 yards and 4 TDs. Carolina appears to be tough on Tight Ends so far in 2014. But don't count on them to hold Bennett to 5.7 fantasy points.
Heath Miller: Miller finally had a good game and now have a fantastic matchup against the Jacksonville Jags. Jacksonville have allowed the 2nd most fantasy points against Tight Ends. Jacksonville have allowed 4 Touchdowns in 4 games.
Sit -
Quarterbacks:
Cam Newton: Chicago have allowed the 8th most fantasy points to Quarterbacks. But it should be noted Aaron Rodgers is a big reason for that. Chicago isn't that bad. In fact , they have force 6 interceptions in the first 3 games (excluding week 4 vs Green Bay) and that ranked T- 2nd best in the NFL behind only the Giants. Newton have only produced 3 TDs in 3 starts. With 243 yards/per game and 11 yards rushing/ per game. Not exactly starting numbers.
Tom Brady: Brady will forever be considered a great teammate and great quarterback. But he is no longer fantasy relevant for us fantasy owners. In 4 games in 2014 , Brady have averaged 11.3 fantasy points/ per game. Ranked 25th of quarterbacks. 5 Quarterback with 3 starts have outscored Brady as well. Cincy have allowed the fewest points against Quarterbacks. They have allowed 254 yards , 0.6 TDs , and 2 Interceptions per game.
Kirk Cousins: Seahawks haven't been elite basing off the numbers. But Kirk Cousins isn't exactly elite himself. Remember last week against Giants? Yeah me too. If Cousins cannot handle an average defense , then he could in for a long Monday evening.
Running Backs -
Stevan Ridley: The Pats O-line is pretty bad. Ridley and co could struggle to produce yards against a very stout defense against the run. Cincy have allowed 14.1 fantasy points/ per game to running back. I don't feel confident at all. Ridley ranked 33rd in fantasy points scored at the running back position.
Chris Johnson: Good matchup , but Johnson have had a few good matchups this season. Unfortunately he failed to take advantage in every situation. In 4 games this season , Johnson only have 167 yards on 41 carries (4.0 average yard per carry.) Chris Ivory have 273 yards on 50 carries (5.4 average yards per carry.) Also expect Jets to pass a lot since they will likely be playing from behind.
Donald Brown: How did Brown manage to screw up a matchup against Jacksonville? Well if it gonna happen , Brown bound to accomplish it. In week 5 , Brown have a very unfavorable matchup. The Jets have allowed the fewest fantasy points ( 7.7 per game.) Donald Brown is unlikely to do much. Even if the Chargers have a huge lead in the second half.
Wide Receivers -
Sammy Watkins: Watkins scored last week. But week 5 bound to be a little more challenging for the rookie wideout. The Lions only have allowed little over 100 yards per game in 2014. They ranked 31th in fantasy points allowed. It also worth knowing there a new starting QB in Buffalo.
Torrey Smith: Smith broke out in week 4 against Carolina. But it could be short lived against a Colts secondary who ranked among top 5 in least fantasy points allowed. It well documented that the Colts defense haven't played many great Wide Outs. With that being said , Smith is no longer the top target for Flacco. Lower your expectations.
Tight Ends -
Larry Donnell: If you started Donnell against New York , well good job. Unfortunately Larry may not come out looking as pretty against Atlanta in week 5. Atlanta have allowed the 4th fewest fantasy points to Tight Ends. Donnell true value could be depended on his TDs rate.
Dwayne Allen: The Colts know to use their Tight Ends very effectively. But the Ravens have allowed the fewest fantasy points to Tight Ends (3.0 average fantasy points) and have allowed 0 TDs. Allen have only 15 receptions for 145 yards in 4 games. His TDs could be the different between a good and bad play.
