Fantasy Nascar Picks (Darlington)

Welcome to TimersSports

Michigan Reap: Michigan was a pretty straight forward race and if you went with the big time drivers, than I would say you came out looking pretty good. Noticeably drivers such as Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Jimmie Johnson were some of the best fantasy producers across every fantasy formats. Kyle Larson was the best overall fantasy producer in almost every major category. How did the lineup I made last week do? Quite well actually in Yahoo Fantasy Racing with 285 points. Logano could have been a much more powerful fantasy play, if he didn't get that pit road penalty. Tony Stewart and Alex Bowman were both disappoints, but Kyle Larson saved the day with the win and the most laps led. The fantasy live (on Nascar.com) lineup could have been much better with a combo of Logano, Harvick, Hamlin, Cassill and Ragan. But that lineup ceiling was very limited with missing on the top 3 scorers overall. Still not a bad week of scores overall. Also hit on a solid sleeper pick in Chase Elliott. All and all, it was another good weekend!

Look Ahead - We are headed to Darlington this Sunday night for the Southern 500! This is one of the most popular races of the season, as it is an iconic event and have been for some time now. Darlington is a tough place to predict and a tough track to tame. There is a reason why they call it the ''lady in black''. That term refers to the famous ''Darlington stripe''. Drivers run up close against the wall and every once in awhile, they lose focus and slap the wall. Getting a famous black stripe on their car. Most of the field will have some sort of black marking on their car before the 500 miles are complete. So who should you put on your fantasy roster this week? Hard to say without practice, but I personally like the JGR and Penske cars this weekend. These teams dominated this race a year ago, they had down races at Michigan but I expect them to rebound in a big way. Also think Hendrick and co have found something lately. At worst, Kevin Harvick will still be fast.

Alright let's dig into today's picks!

Yahoo -

A:

Start - Kevin Harvick (5)

Bench - Denny Hamlin (7)

Reasons -I think Hamlin has one of the best cars for Sunday's race, but he starts from the 7th spot. While Kevin Harvick will roll off from the pole. Harvick also pretty good on the long runs and I think that will help him out a lot too. So do I gamble and roll with the faster driver (Hamlin) or do I take the easy potential 10 bonus points? With no qualifying points, I have go for the sure thing in Harvick.

B:

Start - Jamie Mac (6), Tony Stewart (5)

Bench - Kyle Larson (2), Carl Edwards (3)

Reasons -Man, this is tough week for fantasy picks. Nobody really have seperated themselves in this grouping tier after Carl Edwards and Martin Truex Jr. I have been impressed with Kyle Larson's speed, but I want to save him for Dover and Homestead. So I am not going with him this week. I don't want to use Edwards for the exact same reason. So, I am going to have to roll with two questionable choices in Jamie Mac and Smoke. Honestly, I could see both these picks going either way. However, both drivers have found some success this season of late. So hopefully I can snatch two top 15 finishes and move onto Richmond.

C:

Start - Jeff Gordon (6)

Bench - Chase Elliott (4)

Reasons -Gordon starts from the 15th spot on Sunday night and he looked good enough in practice to be a quality start-save. While I am sure, Elliott have more upside. I am not willing to take a chance on him at a place like Darlington. For me to use him, I would have to see top 5 upside. He doesn't have in him. So Gordon it is!

Fantasy Live - 11,48,4,34 and 23

Sleeper - Kasey Kahne

Winner - Jimmie Johnson
